Jaquez Siblings Inspire 180 Kids at Urgent Summer Camp in CA

UPDATE: In a powerful display of community engagement, NBA star Jaime Jaquez Jr. and his sister Gabriela Jaquez, a rising talent with the UCLA Bruins, led a transformative summer basketball camp for approximately 180 children aged 6 to 16 at the Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California earlier today.

This urgent initiative, designed to foster basketball skills and instill discipline, attracted participants from as far as other states, highlighting the camp’s immediate impact. “It’s good to come back and give something back to the community, especially in a place where we grew up. Being able to do this is special,” Jaime shared passionately, reflecting on his roots in nearby Camarillo.

The three-hour camp was not just a training session; it served as a source of inspiration for families. “It’s exciting to see Latino players succeed, one in the NBA and another possibly in the WNBA,” said Armando Castillas from Oxnard, who brought his children, Logan and Emma, to witness the Jaquez siblings in action.

As they guided the young athletes through drills, Jaime and Gabriela also prepared for their own professional challenges. Jaime, gearing up for his third season with the Miami Heat, is determined to bounce back after a tough previous year. He aims for a playoff push, stating, “It has always been my goal to win championships,” while focusing on improving his game before committing to international play.

Gabriela, fresh off her participation in the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup in Chile, where she averaged 12 points per game and was named a Rising Star, is equally driven. “It was an excellent opportunity. Playing at that level helped me a lot, especially physically,” she noted, as she looks forward to a successful third season with UCLA.

Both athletes are clear about their ambitions: Jaime wants to elevate the Heat during the upcoming season, while Gabriela is targeting a national championship. “The goal is to win championships with UCLA,” Gabriela asserted, recalling their previous success in reaching the Final Four.

This impactful event not only showcased the Jaquez siblings’ commitment to their sport but also reaffirmed their dedication to their community. As they continue to pursue excellence on the court, their efforts to inspire the next generation of players resonate deeply, creating a sense of hope and ambition among young athletes today. Stay tuned for further updates on their upcoming seasons and community initiatives.
