UPDATE: Google has just announced a highly anticipated feature that allows users to change their Gmail addresses without losing any data. This rollout, confirmed to be active in Europe and other regions, is set to transform how millions manage their email identities.
For years, users have been stuck with regrettable Gmail addresses, often due to initial poor choices or unavailability of desired options. Now, with this new capability, individuals can finally update their email usernames while keeping their existing accounts fully intact.
According to Google’s support page, “If you choose, you can change your Google Account email that ends in gmail.com to a new address that ends in gmail.com.” This means all your emails, photos, and other data will remain untouched during this transition. The previous Gmail address will simply become an alternate email, allowing users to receive messages at both the old and new addresses.
The feature is currently rolling out but may not be available to all users immediately. To check availability, simply navigate to http://myaccount.google.com/google-account-email and follow the steps: Personal Info -> Email -> Google Account email -> Change Google Account email.
Google also emphasizes flexibility; users can revert to their original email address at any time. However, note that once you change your Gmail address, you cannot create a new one ending in gmail.com for 12 months. Additionally, deleting your new email address will not be possible.
This announcement comes as a major relief for users who have long awaited this feature, underscoring Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience. The ability to change your Gmail address while retaining all previous data could significantly improve personal branding and email management for users around the globe.
As this feature continues to roll out, be sure to explore your account settings and make the changes you’ve been waiting for. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to refine your digital identity!
