UPDATE: The highly anticipated World Dog Surfing Championships are set to kick off this weekend at Pacifica State Beach, just outside San Francisco. Approximately 15 to 20 canine wave riders will compete for the coveted title of top dog on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
This annual contest draws thousands of enthusiastic spectators eager to watch their furry friends ride the waves. Dogs will compete in heats against similarly sized peers, showcasing their surfing skills and balance. Excitingly, there will also be heats featuring multiple dogs surfing tandem on one board, as well as dogs paired with humans for a thrilling display of teamwork.
Judges will closely evaluate each pup’s performance, considering factors such as how long they stay on their boards, their balance, and even whether they perform any impressive tricks while riding the waves. The winners will be awarded medals and, of course, the ultimate bragging rights among the canine surfing community.
The event promises to be a delightful spectacle, combining athleticism and cuteness, making it a must-see for dog lovers and surf enthusiasts alike. Stay tuned for updates as the competition unfolds this weekend!
