Dante Exum to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery for Knee Injury

UPDATE: Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum will miss the entire 2023-2024 season following complications from a right knee injury that necessitates another surgery, the team confirmed on Thursday. Exum’s ongoing struggles with injuries have plagued his career, and he was never cleared to practice after undergoing summer knee surgery.

This latest development significantly impacts the Mavericks, who re-signed Exum to a $3.3 million one-year deal in the offseason. Exum averaged 8.0 points and 2.8 assists over the last two seasons, but his absence will force the Mavs to reevaluate their roster strategy.

Dallas must now consider waiving Exum to open a roster spot. However, the team faces restrictions that prevent them from signing a new player until January 6 due to being hard capped at the second apron of the salary cap, as reported by ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

The situation underscores the fragility of Exum’s career, as injuries have consistently sidelined him. Mavericks fans and stakeholders are left concerned about the team’s depth and performance as the season progresses without one of their guards.

What happens next? The Mavericks will need to monitor their roster closely and strategize for upcoming games while hoping for a speedy recovery for Exum. As the team navigates through this challenging period, further updates are expected in the coming days. Stay tuned for more developments on the Mavs’ roster moves and Exum’s recovery.
