Michael Elward, Sr., a resident of Plains, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 16, 2026, after enduring a long and courageous struggle with various health challenges. He was 74 years old. Born on June 17, 1951, in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Wozniak) Elward.
A proud alumnus of Elmer L. Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, where he graduated in 1969 as a member of the basketball team, Elward furthered his education by earning a degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University. His career spanned multiple industries, including the railroad, glass, and spring sectors, where he made significant contributions and held several patents.
Elward fondly recalled his first job at the Boston candy kitchen, a position that sparked his lifelong passion for engineering. His personal life was equally fulfilling; nearly 43 years ago, he met his future wife, Donna Yamilkoski, on a blind date just before Valentine’s Day in 1984. They married six months later and celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary last November. Together, they raised two children, Jennifer and Michael Elward Jr..
Beyond his professional achievements, Elward was a gifted artist, often sharing his paintings with friends and family. He believed in the power of art to bring joy to others. An enthusiastic sports fan, he supported baseball, football, and basketball, rarely missing a New York Yankees game. His love for fast sports cars was well-known among his friends and family, particularly his admiration for powerful V8 engines.
Elward is survived by his wife, Donna, his daughter Dr. Jennifer Elward and her husband Eric Tyler, son Michael Elward Jr., brother Joseph Elward, and his beloved grand-dogs, Judge and Dolly. He was preceded in death by his son Patrick Elward and his brother Thomas Elward Jr..
