Earlene Hyman-Payne, a dedicated community member and former 911 Dispatcher, passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on June 18, 1957, in New York City, she was the cherished only child of James Earl Hyman and Cynthia Smithen. Her life was marked by a commitment to service and a deep connection to her community.
Raised in New York City, Earlene completed her high school education before enlisting in the military. Following her service, she devoted herself to various roles that emphasized her dedication to helping others. She worked with organizations such as the YWCA and Peter Harris, but it was her long tenure as a 911 Dispatcher with the Schenectady/Niskayuna Police Department that defined her professional career. Her colleagues knew her for her quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering sense of responsibility.
After retiring from the police department, Earlene continued to find ways to serve her community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked as a skip tracer, supporting efforts to locate individuals in need. In her later years, she took on a role at Proctors Theatre, where she relished the opportunity to learn and share stories with others, further enriching her community ties.
Earlene’s perseverance and warmth left a lasting impact on those around her. She was not only a devoted family member but also a friend and mentor to many. Her contributions to public service and her community will be remembered fondly, as she brought joy and support to countless individuals throughout her life.
