Community Foundation Grants $576,759 to Boost Youth Programs

BREAKING NEWS: The Community Foundation of Lorain County has just announced a substantial investment of $576,759 in grants aimed at enhancing Education and Youth Development across the county. This funding supports vital programs designed to foster learning, growth, and opportunity for young people in the region.

Among the highlights of these grants are $45,000 awarded to the YMCA of Greater Cleveland for new after-school initiatives in Lorain and Elyria, and $30,000 directed towards Lorain County 4H programs via The Ohio State University. Additionally, $20,000 will support Youth Challenge, focusing on engagement programs for youth with diverse needs.

“This funding represents our community’s commitment to supporting students through various educational avenues,” stated Cynthia H. Andrews, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “Whether in classrooms, after-school settings, or through college access programs, we are bridging opportunity gaps.”

The timing of this announcement is critical, as the foundation’s recent out-of-school time report highlights a significant increase in demand for such services. Superintendents and out-of-school providers in Lorain, Clearview, Elyria, and Oberlin have expressed urgent needs for more resources to support students outside traditional classroom environments.

The latest funding cycle includes grants for organizations like ACES, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Save Our Children, all of which offer essential out-of-school programs. Furthermore, funding is allocated to support in-school initiatives from Junior Achievement and the Diversity Center, expanding college access and services for students with varying physical and cognitive needs.

“Out-of-school time programs are crucial for academic success and social-emotional growth, helping to reduce risky behaviors,” emphasized Jamie Simoneau, chief impact officer for the Community Foundation. “Given that children spend approximately 75 percent of their waking hours outside formal classrooms, these programs play an essential role in helping them thrive.”

With these urgent grants, the Community Foundation of Lorain County is paving the way for a brighter future for its youth. Community leaders and organizations are now tasked with implementing these programs effectively, ensuring that every child has access to opportunities that can profoundly impact their lives.

Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the rollout of these programs and their impact on the community.
