Cade Cavalli and Nationals Strike $870K Deal, Avoid Arbitration

BREAKING: Right-hander Cade Cavalli and the Washington Nationals have just finalized a one-year contract worth $870,000, successfully avoiding salary arbitration. This urgent announcement comes as Cavalli enters his first arbitration eligibility period after a challenging recovery from injury.

The deal was confirmed early Sunday, marking a significant milestone for the 27-year-old pitcher. Cavalli initially requested $900,000 while the Nationals offered $825,000, with a $75,000 gap between the two proposals, the smallest among the 18 players facing arbitration this year. His contract includes a team option for $4 million and a $7,500 buyout.

Cavalli’s salary for 2024 is set at $862,500, the midpoint between both sides’ figures. This agreement is crucial as it not only secures his financial standing but also reflects his comeback journey. After making his big league debut in August 2022, Cavalli faced a serious setback with a Tommy John surgery following an arm injury in March 2023. He is now poised to build on his recent success after returning to the major leagues on August 6, 2025, where he pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the Athletics.

This contract highlights the Nationals’ commitment to Cavalli as he strives to reclaim his position in the starting rotation. After a mixed minor league season where he went 4-17 with a 5.47 ERA, Cavalli’s performance in the majors will be closely watched as he aims for greater achievements in the upcoming season.

As it stands, seventeen players remain scheduled for arbitration hearings set between January 26 and February 13 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Notably, the high-profile case involving two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal is drawing attention, as he has requested a record $32 million compared to the $19 million offered by the Detroit Tigers.

Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close eye on these developments, especially as the Nationals look to solidify their roster for the upcoming season. The urgency of these negotiations reflects the intense atmosphere of Major League Baseball’s arbitration period, where every contract can significantly influence a team’s strategy moving forward.

Stay tuned for updates as more players finalize their contracts and the arbitration hearings approach, shaping the future of the league.
