Cody Cederberg-Kubiak from Essexville Garber has emerged as a key player for the boys basketball team. Known for his scoring ability, he recently returned from illness to deliver a stunning performance with 29 points and 12 rebounds in a game against Bridgeport. Coach Chris Watz praised his leadership and scoring capability, noting that Cederberg-Kubiak is stepping up as a leading scorer and motivator.
In girls basketball, Gali Costilla of All Saints is making waves as a senior point guard. Her passion for the game and competitive spirit have made her a significant presence on the court. Coach Mike Debo highlighted her ability to assist teammates and her strong defensive skills. Costilla recently recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds in a pivotal game against Owen-Gage.
Another standout is Sean Donahue from Pinconning, whose confidence is soaring. The junior guard has become more aggressive in scoring, averaging 8.8 points and 4.0 assists per game. Coach Jason Donahue credited him with being a crucial factor in the team’s success during their recent winning streak.

On the girls’ side, Claire Foco of Pinconning is drawing attention as a freshman. Coach Duane Pitts noted her continuous improvement and determination, which were evident when she scored a career-high 15 points in a recent win against Farwell.
Emerging Young Talents
Sophomore Aleese Kimmerer from Hale is also gaining recognition for her impressive performances. Coach Joe Kimmerer, her father, remarked on her maturity and capability, as she leads the team in assists and free-throw percentage. Kimmerer scored a remarkable 52 points and gathered 18 rebounds over two games last week.
In bowling, Cole Klee leads the Pinconning boys team with a strong presence on the lanes. His average of 171.3 places him among the top bowlers in the league, with a high game of 213 this season. Coach Brad Shoultes acknowledged Klee’s essential role in the team’s performance.
The Owosso girls’ basketball team is benefitting from the contributions of sophomore Isla Merdzinski, who is swiftly adapting to the varsity level. Coach Scott Lueck noted her recent scoring explosion, totaling 53 points across three victories, while also improving defensively.
For Gladwin, Jacob Pahl is instrumental in the boys basketball team’s success. His toughness and reliability as a guard have been vital, with Pahl scoring 66 points in three wins last week, including perfect free-throw shooting in a crucial overtime victory.
Freshman Kaidyn Peek is making a name for himself at Au Gres, stepping up to play point guard effectively. Coach Chase Blackmore praised Peek’s ability to drive to the basket and find open teammates, indicating a bright future for the young player.
In Ogemaw Heights, junior guard Eli Smith is experiencing a breakthrough season. Coach Alex Jennings highlighted his increased scoring ability, with Smith recently scoring 11 points against Beaverton and 13 points against Bullock Creek.
