BREAKING: The Autism Foundation of Oklahoma has just announced the establishment of an endowment fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, aiming to secure long-term operations and growth. This vital initiative comes as the foundation expands its services to support autistic individuals across their entire lifespan, not just children and youth.
Executive Director Emily Scott, who has dedicated the last seven years to the foundation, now leads a team of 10 staff members. This significant growth reflects the organization’s commitment to addressing the needs of the autism community. After recognizing a critical gap in services for individuals aging out of traditional support systems, Scott has prioritized ongoing support for autistic individuals beyond high school.
In a heartfelt statement, Scott shared her personal connection to the cause, revealing that her 23-year-old son has autism. She has witnessed the challenges faced by those on the spectrum as they transition into adulthood, highlighting the urgent need for sustained support.
The newly established endowment fund will play a crucial role in maintaining general operations and ensuring staff salaries. Donations made to the fund will be matched through a generous grant from the Kirkpatrick Family Fund. If the foundation can raise $25,000 by November 2026, it will unlock an additional $15,000 in matching funds, amplifying the impact of community contributions.
The Autism Foundation is also hosting monthly social events specifically designed for autistic and neurodivergent teens and young adults. These gatherings foster community connections and provide invaluable support, emphasizing the foundation’s mission to create inclusive experiences.
The launch of this endowment fund marks a pivotal moment for the Autism Foundation of Oklahoma, ensuring that its programs remain sustainable and impactful for years to come. As interest in the fund grows, the organization is calling on the community to contribute and help bridge the service gap for Oklahoma’s autism population.
Stay tuned for further updates as this crucial initiative unfolds and contributes to the lives of many in Oklahoma’s autism community.
