Astros’ Peña Begins Rehab Assignment Tonight – Injury Update

BREAKING: Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña is set to commence his rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Sugar Land tonight, marking a significant step in his recovery from a rib injury. Peña, 27, has been sidelined since June 27, 2023, when he suffered a small rib fracture after being hit by a pitch during a game against the Chicago Cubs.

The Astros announced Peña’s rehab assignment after he successfully faced live pitching at the team’s spring training complex in Florida over the weekend. He continued his preparation with a workout at Daikin Park on Monday, just ahead of the Astros’ matchup against the Washington Nationals.

While the exact number of games Peña will need in the minors before returning to the Astros remains uncertain, his progress offers a glimmer of hope for a team grappling with multiple injuries. Peña has been a key player this season, boasting a remarkable batting average of .322 along with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs across 82 games. Additionally, he has contributed 18 doubles and 15 stolen bases to the Astros’ lineup.

Fans and teammates alike are eager for Peña’s return, as his presence is crucial for the team’s playoff aspirations. The Astros, dealing with a series of injury setbacks, are looking to bolster their performance in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for updates on Peña’s rehab progress and potential return date to the major leagues, as this development could significantly impact the Astros’ chances in the postseason.
