Andrew Garfield Confirms He Won’t Return for Social Network 2

UPDATE: In a surprising turn of events, Andrew Garfield has confirmed he will not reprise his role as Eduardo Saverin in the much-anticipated sequel, The Social Reckoning. This announcement comes as excitement builds for the film, which is set to hit US theaters on October 9, 2026.

During a recent interview with IndieWire, Garfield made it clear that fans should not expect to see him return. “No, no,” he stated. “Eduardo [Saverin] is in Singapore having a good time.” While Garfield expressed enthusiasm for the film’s release, saying, “Oh yeah,” his comments suggest a definitive exit from the project.

The news raises questions about the film’s direction, especially since the sequel has been in talks since 2019 and was officially announced just last June. Academy Award-winning writer Aaron Sorkin is back to write and direct, but major changes in the cast have stirred controversy.

In addition to Garfield, it appears that Jesse Eisenberg, who played Mark Zuckerberg in the original, will not be returning either. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicate that Jeremy Strong will take on the role of Zuckerberg, marking a significant shift in the film’s casting. Moreover, David Fincher, who directed the first film, is also absent from the sequel.

The cast of The Social Reckoning now includes Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, and Bill Burr, among others. The sequel promises to dive deeper into the controversies surrounding Facebook, focusing on whistleblower Frances Haugen, who teams up with Jeff Horwitz from the Wall Street Journal to expose the platform’s hidden malpractices.

As the release date approaches, fans of the original film are left grappling with the absence of key characters. Garfield’s exit, while perhaps final, leaves the door slightly ajar for potential surprises, reminiscent of his secretive involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

This developing story will continue to unfold as more details about the cast and plot emerge. For now, audiences are urged to keep an eye on updates as The Social Reckoning prepares for its highly anticipated debut next year.

Stay tuned for more breaking news on this story as it evolves!
