UPDATE: The city of Albany is set to illuminate downtown for the highly anticipated 35th Celebration of Lights on December 6. This beloved annual event promises a festive atmosphere filled with music, magic, and community spirit as families gather to celebrate the holiday season.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Home for the Holidays: Honoring Our Heroes,” paying tribute to those who have served and uplifted the community. The tree-lighting ceremony will honor two influential community leaders: the late Commissioner Demetrius Young and Dr. John W. Culbreath, recognized for their lifetime of dedication and service.
Event Schedule:
- Christmas Village: 4-8 p.m.
- Live Entertainment: 4:45-5:45 p.m.
- Tree-lighting Ceremony: 5:45 p.m.
- Christmas Parade: 6 p.m.
Locations:
- Christmas Village: North Jackson Street (from Pine Avenue to Broad Avenue).
- Opening Performances: Pine Avenue between the Government Center and the Judicial Building.
- Parade Route: Begins at Wesco and continues to the Dougherty County School System Building.
