79-Year-Old Files $50M Claim After Immigration Raid Injury

UPDATE: A 79-year-old U.S. citizen has just filed a staggering $50 million claim against the federal government, alleging civil rights violations following a chaotic immigration raid in Los Angeles on September 9. Rafie Ollah Shouhed, the owner of a local car wash, suffered serious injuries, including broken ribs and chest trauma, after federal agents tackled him during the operation.

Shouhed’s claim details a disturbing incident where video footage shows a federal officer charging into the car wash and forcibly knocking him to the ground. The confrontation escalated when Shouhed attempted to approach officers detaining one of his employees, leading to a second officer tackling him. The footage captures the aggressive tactics employed by the agents, raising significant concerns over law enforcement practices.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, five individuals from Guatemala and Mexico were arrested during the raid, and Shouhed was accused of “impeding the operation.” However, he and his attorney, V. James DeSimone, vehemently deny these claims. At a press conference, Shouhed expressed his desire to assist the officers, stating, “What can I do for you? Can I help you?”

The claim asserts that Shouhed was detained for 12 hours without charges after showing his identification at the detention center. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as several other U.S. citizens have also filed civil rights claims against the government after being wrongfully detained during similar enforcement operations in Southern California.

The aggressive tactics of federal immigration officers are under increasing scrutiny. Following this incident, DHS issued a rare rebuke of an officer involved in an unrelated case for using excessive force.

Shouhed’s claim has immediate implications for how immigration enforcement is conducted, emphasizing the need for accountability and respect for civil rights. The agency has six months to respond to the claim, after which Shouhed may pursue legal action in federal court.

This developing story sheds light on the broader implications of immigration enforcement practices and their impact on communities. As public scrutiny intensifies, it remains to be seen how federal agencies will respond to the growing calls for reform.
