UPDATE: A 27-year-old man was arrested early Friday in connection with a shocking hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a baby and a toddler in San Bernardino, California. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Arrowhead Avenue and 27th Street, leaving the community in shock.
According to San Bernardino police, two women and six children were crossing Arrowhead Avenue when a driver sped through the intersection, striking a 3-year-old and an infant in a stroller. The impact was catastrophic; authorities reported that the toddler was thrown to the ground while the stroller containing the baby was dragged more than 350 feet by the suspect’s vehicle.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped, the stroller became dislodged, and the driver drove around the stroller before fleeing at a high rate of speed,” police stated in their report. This disturbing account has left many in the community demanding justice for the young victims.
After launching a public appeal for information, police received crucial tips from community members that led to the identification of the suspect, Chester Lamont Gordon. He was arrested around 4 a.m. on Friday after officers spotted him backing the suspect vehicle out of his garage. Gordon now faces charges of hit-and-run and reckless driving.
The two injured children remain in critical condition, prompting the creation of a GoFundMe campaign aimed at supporting their family during this challenging time. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
