Instagram users have recently encountered a significant issue with the platform’s Stories feature, leaving many creators frustrated as their content goes unseen. Reports indicate that posts made within the last several hours are not registering any views, with counts frozen at zero and the distinctive story rings missing from followers’ feeds.
Users Report Widespread Visibility Issues
The problem began approximately eight to nine hours prior to the time of reporting, according to multiple threads on Reddit, particularly in the r/Instagram community. Users have noted that while their Stories appear on their own profiles, the colored rings indicating new content do not display for followers in their main feeds. Consequently, followers can only view these Stories by visiting the creator’s profile directly.
One business account manager with a following of 30,000 reported just two views for a Story posted after an hour. Another creator, boasting 70,000 followers and a verified badge, noted a mere 15 views within 20 minutes of posting. Additionally, a user accustomed to garnering between 300 and 500 views per Story saw only three views in an hour.
This issue is not confined to accounts with smaller followings; users across various follower counts have experienced similar visibility challenges. Some creators noted that Stories they posted hours ago still show zero views or low single-digit numbers, contrasting sharply with their usual performance of hundreds of views.
Complaints Surge as Users Seek Answers
According to Downdetector, there was a noticeable spike in complaints concerning Instagram during the same period, with many users specifically highlighting problems related to Stories. Reports indicated that the app’s functionality was compromised, significantly impacting user experience.
Initially, some users speculated that they had been shadowbanned, particularly those who shared political content or news updates. However, the glitch appears to affect all types of Stories, irrespective of content. For instance, one user shared adorable pet photos but faced the same visibility issue, while another posted a simple photo from Seattle with no caption and received no engagement.
Additional reports from Redditors suggested that their feeds were only displaying older Stories from the previous day. New uploads from accounts they regularly follow were not appearing at the top of their feeds, where they should typically be visible.
After approximately seven hours of this outage, some users began to observe that their Stories were functioning again. Views started to trickle in, and the missing story rings reappeared in feeds. Nonetheless, this fix has proven inconsistent, with many still experiencing issues with their Stories hours later.
As of now, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has not issued an official statement addressing the cause of the glitch or outlining a timeline for resolution. Interestingly, TikTok users have also reported similar problems with view counts and app functionality, suggesting a broader issue with social media platforms during this period.
In light of these ongoing issues, many creators are opting to delay posting time-sensitive content until the platform stabilizes. Some have even chosen to delete their Stories entirely rather than leave them up with no engagement.
