Apple iPhone 16 Leads Q3 2025 Global Smartphone Sales

Apple has once again asserted its dominance in the global smartphone market with the iPhone 16, which was the top-selling smartphone in the third quarter of 2025. A recent report from Counterpoint Research indicates that the iPhone 16 captured 4% of the total volume share during this period, marking its third consecutive quarter at the forefront of sales.

In a notable shift from last year’s performance, Apple secured five positions in the top ten best-selling smartphones, up from four in Q3 2024. The iPhone 16 not only topped the list, but the company also placed the iPhone 16 Pro in second, the iPhone 16 Pro Max in third, the iPhone 16e in fourth, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max in tenth place. This achievement is particularly impressive, given that the last model faced limited availability towards the end of the quarter.

Samsung maintained its presence in the market with the Galaxy A16 5G, which was recognized as the best-selling Android smartphone for the quarter. The report attributes part of Apple’s success to a trend from the previous semester, where many consumers who delayed upgrades during the COVID-19 pandemic sought replacements for their older devices.

Counterpoint Research highlights that the ongoing interest in smartphone upgrades is fueled by advancements in artificial intelligence features, which are expected to continue benefiting mid-range devices in the top ten rankings. As technology evolves, consumer preferences are shifting towards smartphones that offer enhanced functionality at competitive price points.

Looking ahead, the smartphone market is poised for further developments. The continued integration of innovative technologies may reshape buyer behavior, creating opportunities for both established brands like Apple and emerging competitors. The full implications of these trends will become clearer as the year progresses, as the demand for smartphones remains robust globally.

In summary, Apple’s performance in Q3 2025 not only underscores its leading position in the smartphone industry but also reflects broader consumer trends that could influence future sales strategies. With the iPhone 16 setting a strong example, Apple appears well-positioned to maintain its competitive edge in the evolving landscape of mobile technology.
