Tabb Dominates Field Hockey, Remains Unbeaten Ahead of Playoffs

Tabb High School is on track for its fifth consecutive Virginia High School League Class 3 championship, maintaining an impressive record of 15 wins and no losses this season. The Tigers have not allowed a goal since a narrow 2-1 victory over Colonial Forge in August. As they prepare to close their regular season against Nansemond River at 18:00 on Thursday, Tabb has secured a top ranking in the Max Field Hockey National Top 25 polls, currently placed at No. 24.

In other notable performances, Caitlin Outlaw led the defending VHSL Class 5 champions, the Warriors, with five goals across two matches. This includes a commanding 7-1 win against Grafton. Anja Speers also shone for Norfolk Academy, scoring two goals in victories over Cape Henry Collegiate and Walsingham Academy. The Bulldogs will finish their season hosting First Colonial at 16:00 on Friday.

Great Bridge continues to impress, with sophomore Addie Savoie recording back-to-back shutouts in games against Green Run and Kempsville. Leah Orrock secured a tight 1-0 victory for Great Bridge against Maury, while teammate Brooke Fierst added another shutout, leading the Wildcats to a 4-0 win over Grassfield. Lexi Curtis contributed significantly with a hat trick, further solidifying Great Bridge’s strong position. They are set to host Kellam at 18:00 on Monday before traveling to Indian River for a 17:30 matchup on Wednesday, which could potentially mark an unbeaten run in the Southeastern District.

Hickory’s Laila Manipon scored the decisive goal in the fourth quarter, helping her team edge out Catholic with a final score of 3-2. Freshman Abby Cullen contributed four goals in a victory over Oscar Smith, with Hickory gearing up to host Western Branch at 17:30 on Wednesday.

Western Branch’s Maddie Viola netted a hat trick in a 4-1 win against Lakeland, while Cox saw Mikaela Quinn score twice in a 4-0 victory over Chancellor, last season’s Class 4 runner-up. Bella Glenn also made an impact, adding one goal and one assist, while excelling in previous matches against Salem and Tallwood.

Poquoson defeated Jamestown 4-3, with Casey Law and Elizabeth Trant each contributing a goal and an assist. Ashley Groseth delivered a standout performance for the Islanders, scoring a hat trick in a 9-1 rout of Smithfield; they will face York at 16:30 on Wednesday.

York secured a thrilling 1-0 victory over Prince George, thanks to a double-overtime goal from Lexi Anderson, who also scored three goals and provided an assist in a 6-0 win over Bruton.

Highlighting additional standout performances from last week, Danica Carter led Oscar Smith with a hat trick in a 6-0 victory over Manor. Camille Lebel achieved a personal best with three goals and two assists for Cape Henry Collegiate in a 7-0 win against Hampton Roads Academy. Kiyah Hill scored both goals for Smithfield in their 2-0 victory over Deep Creek, bringing her season total to an impressive 15 goals. Lily Scott recorded the decisive goal for Kempsville in a narrow 1-0 win over Deep Creek.

As the regular season draws to a close, the rankings reflect the competitive landscape of Virginia high school field hockey:
