This win propels the fifth-seeded Packers, who now hold a record of 7-4, into the next round, where they will face the winner of the upcoming matchup between Denbigh and top-seeded Lafayette.
In an electrifying game on March 14, 2024, Kyle Buggs and Zyron Wells each scored two touchdowns, demonstrating their offensive prowess throughout the match. Buggs contributed significantly, not only rushing for a touchdown but also connecting with Jayven Reid on a crucial 10-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-7, giving Smithfield a commanding 21-8 lead by halftime.
The first half was marked by dynamic plays. Wells showcased his speed with an impressive 80-yard run that set up his own 1-yard touchdown, while Warhill responded with a 69-yard touchdown pass from Carson Strickland to Micah Mason, along with a two-point conversion run by Braden Terns. Just before halftime, Terns electrified the crowd with an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, narrowing the score to 20-14.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, Smithfield extended their lead to 28-14, thanks to Wells’ 23-yard touchdown run. The Packers further solidified their advantage when Terrance Dove blocked a Lions punt in the end zone, resulting in a safety that brought the score to 30-14.
Warhill fought back, with Mason catching his second touchdown pass of the night, a 38-yarder from Strickland, followed by another successful two-point conversion. This brought the Lions within striking distance at 30-22. However, the game took a critical turn when Amare Boone intercepted a pass with 8:05 remaining, preventing Warhill from potentially tying the game.
In the final minute, Ja’Ki Parker sealed the victory for Smithfield with another interception, ensuring their place in the next round of the playoffs.
