Shilo Sanders Fined by NFL After Ejection in Preseason Game

Shilo Sanders, a rookie safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been fined $4,669 by the NFL following an ejection for punching Buffalo Bills tight end Zach Davidson during a preseason game. The incident occurred last Saturday, when the Bills defeated the Buccaneers 23-19. This fine comes at a challenging time for Sanders, who was cut from the Buccaneers’ roster and is currently without a team.

In the game, Sanders’ actions led to his immediate ejection, raising questions about his future in the league. Despite the fine, which typically would be deducted from a player’s next paycheck, Sanders finds himself in a unique position; since he is currently unemployed, he may not have to pay the fine until he secures a new contract with an NFL team.

Challenges Ahead for Sanders

After going undrafted in 2025, Sanders joined the Buccaneers for the preseason but failed to make the 53-man roster. His father, the legendary Deion Sanders, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011, adding to the pressure for the younger Sanders to carve out his own path in professional football. His younger brother, Shedeur Sanders, was recently drafted by the Cleveland Browns, further highlighting Shilo’s current struggles as he searches for his next opportunity.

Although his position seems precarious, Sanders remains hopeful about continuing his football career. Reports indicate that his agent is actively seeking opportunities, including potential discussions with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Argonauts had previously shown interest in Shedeur, who has now made the Browns’ roster, suggesting a family connection that could benefit Shilo.

Looking Forward

As the NFL prepares for the start of the 2025 season, which kicks off this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, teams are under pressure to finalize their rosters. While Sanders faces uncertainty, the Argonauts’ negotiations provide a potential lifeline that could allow him to avoid paying the fine.

In a league where player conduct is closely monitored, Sanders’ case serves as a reminder of the consequences athletes face for their actions on the field. The NFL’s decision to impose a fine on a rookie reflects the league’s commitment to maintaining discipline among its players.

As the situation develops, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Shilo Sanders can find a new team and make an impact in the league.
