Despite facing significant challenges, including four consecutive days without practice due to flooding in the area, Morton-White Pass demonstrated resilience and skill. The game took place in Morton, Washington, following a brief hiatus after their previous victory against Kalama on Monday. Flooding had led to the cancellation of school at White Pass from March 5 to March 8, 2024, which could have hindered their performance.
From the outset, the Timberwolves established dominance, building a strong lead of 10 points in the first quarter. By halftime, they had expanded their advantage to 18 points. The third quarter was particularly impressive, with Morton-White Pass outscoring Ocosta 21-6, ultimately taking a commanding 33-point lead into the final quarter.
Tim McCoy, head coach of Morton-White Pass, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance. “We just shot really well today,” he noted. He also highlighted the team’s defensive success, particularly in man-to-man coverage, an approach they had not utilized extensively during the season. “They’re learning how to switch in the screen and roll, and they did pretty well,” he added.
Leading the scoring for Morton-White Pass was Maila Armstrong, who contributed 17 points. Ryelin Wiedenmann followed closely behind with 15 points, while Layna Sams added 9 and Chevy Fuller contributed 6 points. The balance in scoring showcased the team’s depth and versatility.
