Corey Heim emerged victorious in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, clinching the championship title on November 4, 2023, at Phoenix Raceway. The 22-year-old driver showcased an impressive season, winning 12 out of 25 races, solidifying his status as a standout competitor in the series. Heim’s journey to this moment, however, was marked by significant challenges and a relentless commitment to his racing career.
Growing up in Cumming, Georgia, Heim faced a tough road to success, unlike many of his peers who benefited from substantial financial backing. He began his racing career on local tracks and the Lanier quarter-midget circuit, where he operated on a limited budget. Only when his father’s business began to stabilize was he able to move up to the Late Models, a crucial step that eventually opened the door to the ARCA series.
Between 2019 and 2022, Heim recorded nine wins in ARCA, catching the attention of Kyle Busch Motorsports. This led to his opportunity to drive the No. 51 Truck. Reflecting on his early struggles, Heim stated, “It’s a surreal feeling. I came from 2019… I ran a part-time schedule with a different team. Had a pretty lackluster year.”
The support from his father proved invaluable, as he invested every available resource to keep Heim’s dream alive, hoping to attract sponsorship that would allow him to compete full-time. In 2020, Heim secured a break with Venturini Motorsports, participating in a seven-race ARCA schedule while still balancing Late Model races. Despite his efforts, Heim recognized the odds were against him. “If you run seven ARCA races, you’re not really in a running to be in a full-time truck at some point,” he noted.
That realization marked a turning point for Heim. He clinched victory in his final race of the ARCA season at Kansas, which led to a full-time opportunity with Venturini and Toyota the following year. “Go out and have a really good year. Set myself up for success going forward,” he explained.
Throughout his career, Heim remained steadfast in his belief in Toyota and its plans for him. “Little by little, I kind of just kept faith in Toyota, what they had planned for me,” he recalled, acknowledging his support from TRICON Garage. The partnership evolved into a formidable alliance, resulting in a record-breaking season for Heim.
As he reflects on his journey, Heim finds it difficult to comprehend how far he has come. “If you told myself in 2020 where I’d be in 2025, I probably wouldn’t believe you,” he remarked.
From his early days racing on local tracks in Georgia to hoisting the Truck Series trophy, Heim’s story underscores the power of perseverance. His success, driven not by wealth or connections but by hard work and unwavering belief in his talent, serves as an inspiring testament to what can be achieved through dedication and resilience in the competitive world of NASCAR.
