The Denver Broncos have elevated linebacker Jordan Turner from the practice squad to the active roster, enabling him to make his NFL debut against the Dallas Cowboys on October 29, 2023. This move comes following the one-game suspension of Dre Greenlaw, which was imposed due to actions that occurred after the Broncos’ recent victory over the New York Giants.
Turner, a rookie undrafted free agent, originally joined the Broncos after the NFL draft in April. He participated in the offseason workout program, training camp, and preseason before being waived during final roster cuts in August. Subsequently, he was re-signed to the practice squad. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 231 pounds, Turner is expected to play a crucial role in the Broncos’ defensive lineup.
Throughout his collegiate career, Turner played three seasons at Wisconsin before transferring to Michigan State for the 2024 season. Over his 42-game career, he recorded a total of 201 combined tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks, five interceptions, four pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. His athleticism and skill set have drawn attention, with experts noting his strong coverage abilities and effective run-stopping techniques.
According to analysis, “Jordan Turner has the ideal length and athleticism combination that is sought after at the NFL level at linebacker.” The review highlights his solid awareness and acceleration, which allow him to effectively break on the ball and evade blocks. If he can refine his tackling techniques and improve his pursuit angles, he may become a sought-after prospect in future NFL drafts.
With Greenlaw’s suspension, Turner will join linebackers Alex Singleton, Justin Strnad, and Karene Reid on the Broncos’ gameday roster. Head coach Sean Payton commented on the situation, stating, “We were clearly in his corner with the appeal. What normally has been a fine ended up being different. But again, we can’t control that.”
As the Broncos prepare for their upcoming game against the Cowboys, all eyes will be on Turner as he steps onto the field for the first time in his professional career. This opportunity is not only a significant milestone for him but also a chance for the Broncos to bolster their defense in a critical matchup. The anticipation surrounding Turner’s debut adds an exciting dimension to an already compelling gameweek for the Broncos and their fans.
