In light of Kane’s potential exit, Bayern had previously shown interest in signing Nick Woltemade during the recent transfer window, indicating their awareness of the need for future planning. They ultimately settled on Jackson, who has a soft obligation to buy, to provide immediate depth as well as a future option.
Reflecting on the situation, Honigstein noted, “People in Germany don’t expect Harry Kane to see out his career at Bayern necessarily. There was always a chance… that he will leave perhaps slightly earlier than his contract.” This suggests that both Kane and the club are at a crossroads, needing to consider their next steps soon.
Bayern’s proactive approach to signing Jackson speaks to their strategy of preparing for a future without Kane. Honigstein elaborated, stating, “The fact that they were pushing for somebody who can be both a back-up and an understudy for Kane… suggests that Bayern are aware of the possibility that Kane might go in a year or two.” While Jackson is currently positioned as a secondary option, he may eventually become a key player for the team.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Kane remains focused on the current season.
