The Alabama Crimson Tide secured a decisive victory against the Kennesaw State Owls, winning 92-81 during the Rocket City Classic held on December 21, 2025, in Huntsville. Alabama established a commanding lead early in the game, at one point ahead by as many as 30 points. However, a strong second-half performance by Kennesaw State narrowed the gap, with the Owls outscoring Alabama 53-38 in the final period.
One standout player for Alabama was sophomore forward Aiden Sherrell, who delivered a season-high performance. Sherrell showcased his skills by scoring 21 points, shooting 8-for-10 from the field, and grabbing seven rebounds. His impressive first half saw him net 15 points, a significant improvement from his previous season-high of 14 points against Gonzaga. After the game, Sherrell remarked, “The guards were finding me a lot. They were mixing up the coverages and everything. I was just trying to get the teammates open, and they happened to find me a lot.”
Alabama head coach Nate Oats commended Sherrell’s development, particularly in his defensive capabilities. He highlighted the improvements Sherrell has made in rim protection and noted, “He’s made huge strides here in his play over the last month to month and a half.”
Despite the win, Alabama’s struggles on the boards continued. The Crimson Tide was outrebounded by Kennesaw State, with a final tally of 46-41, including a 15-13 deficit in offensive rebounds. In the second half alone, Kennesaw State managed a 23-17 advantage on the glass. Oats acknowledged the need for improvement in this area, stating, “We’ve got to get some rebounding in our frontcourt… if you don’t want to rebound, you’re not going to play.”
Alabama’s Amari Allen, who returned from a hip injury that sidelined him in the previous game against South Florida, contributed notably with eight rebounds and nine points. He displayed resilience, scoring seven of his points in the second half and making two blocks in the first. Oats expressed optimism about Allen’s return, stating, “He made some tough plays on the glass… he’s looking like he’s going to be able to do it.”
Looking ahead, Alabama faces Yale on December 29 before entering Southeastern Conference (SEC) play against Kentucky. Oats emphasized the importance of addressing the team’s rebounding issues prior to these critical matchups. “They’re going to play with some physicality and some toughness up front there, and that’s what we’re looking for right now,” he said.
The Crimson Tide’s performance, marked by both strengths and areas for growth, sets the stage for an exciting continuation of the season as they prepare for upcoming challenges in both non-conference and conference play.
