The latest test flight of SpaceX’s Starship concluded successfully on August 26, 2025, with the vehicle’s upper stage, known as Ship, splashing down in the Indian Ocean. This marked the tenth flight for the towering 121-meter rocket, which is designed to facilitate future human missions to Mars. The vehicle exhibited significant signs of wear, including a golden-brown exterior scorched by the heat of reentry and missing tiles near its base. These marks were expected, as SpaceX deliberately designed the test to push the limits of the rocket’s capabilities.
“Starship made it through reentry with intentionally missing tiles, completed maneuvers to intentionally stress its flaps, had visible damage to its aft skirt and flaps, and still executed a flip and landing burn that placed it approximately 3 meters from its targeted splashdown point,” SpaceX stated in its X post. The precision of the landing was notable, with Ship splashing down close to a buoy that was deployed in the targeted zone.
This successful splashdown is particularly significant as it follows a series of challenges faced in earlier tests. Ship had previously broken apart during three test flights in 2025, making the success of Flight 10 a crucial milestone for SpaceX.

Notably, Ship successfully re-ignited one of its Raptor engines in space, an accomplishment that had only been achieved during one previous flight.
