Remembering Joanne Carlini: A Life of Love and Dedication

Joanne (Cutrone) Carlini, a beloved educator and devoted mother, passed away surrounded by family on February 7, 2024, in Culver City, California. Born on March 10, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, to Italian immigrants Guy and Vera Cutrone, she exemplified resilience and determination throughout her life.

From a young age, Joanne displayed a remarkable intellect and curiosity. She excelled academically, nurtured a passion for music, and formed enduring friendships. Her strong Italian heritage shaped her identity, and she maintained a deep connection to her hometown of Akron, even after relocating to Southern California.

In a time when few women pursued higher education, Joanne paved her own path. After graduating from high school in 1954, she attended the University of Akron, majoring in Spanish. This decision led her to a fulfilling career as a foreign language teacher, where she taught Spanish, French, and English, along with her native Italian. Her dedication and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on her students and colleagues.

Joanne’s journey took her to California, where she continued to inspire students at Palos Verdes High and Rolling Hills High. As a single woman in the 1960s, she made a bold choice to purchase her first home independently, creating a nurturing environment for her family, including her parents.

In 1970, Joanne married Vincent Carlini, and together they raised a loving family of eight children. While she stepped back from teaching to focus on motherhood, the Carlini home became known for its warmth, generosity, and delicious meals, particularly her famed meatballs.

After their children reached adulthood, Joanne and Vincent embraced their shared passion for travel. The couple enjoyed many adventures, with Joanne always finding joy in being by Vincent’s side. His passing in 2004 left a significant void in her life, but her steadfast Catholic faith provided her comfort and hope for a reunion in the afterlife.

In her later years, Joanne faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease, which affected her health but never diminished her spirit or love for her family. She remained resilient and determined until her last moments, surrounded by loved ones.

Joanne is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Carlini; her parents, Guy and Vera Cutrone; and her brother, Bob Cutrone. She is survived by her eight children: Walter (Susan) Carlini, Piero (Gilda) Carlini, Adriana (Nick) Zebeljan, Michelle (Raffaele) D’Eusebio, Patricia Carlini, Mauro (Deana) Carlini, David (Amy) Carlini, and Carla Carlini; along with fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Holy Cross Cemetery. Services will be held on February 7, 2024, in Culver City, California. Joanne Carlini’s legacy of love, strength, and dedication will be cherished by all who knew her.
