Dan Ericson, a respected member of the South Bay community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by his loving family, the beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend was known for his kindness, integrity, and a playful sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Born on October 26, 1948, Dan spent his formative years in Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach, raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. He attended Aviation High School, where he excelled in athletics, particularly in baseball and basketball, earning the title of Homecoming King. Following his time at El Camino College, he was “recruited off the beach” to play volleyball at San Diego State University, showcasing his talent in the sport.
Dan’s commitment to service was evident during his tenure as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. After a brief stint in the aerospace industry, he discovered his true passion in real estate. Over the years, Dan built a successful business in the South Bay, recognized not only for his expertise but also for his commitment to mentoring young realtors in conducting business with honesty and heart.
In 1980, Dan married the love of his life, Cetha Walkington, in a ceremony at Neighborhood Church. Together, they created a warm and loving home, raising their two children, Sten and Kirstin. Dan also cherished his role as a father-in-law to Katrin and a proud grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.
Known for his gentle nature and clever humor, Dan brought joy to those around him with his love of wordplay and quick jokes, often delivered with his trademark warmth and smile. His passion for the ocean was evident in his love for surfing, fishing, and sailing, activities he enjoyed throughout his life.
Dan was a devoted parishioner of American Martyrs Church for over 40 years, remaining deeply connected to the community he cherished. He has now been reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha, who passed away previously.
A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. The family will also hold a paddle out at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach. All are welcome to attend these commemorative events. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing therapeutic ocean experiences.
