The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) invites all faculty, staff, and students to participate in the upcoming Community Empowerment and Justice Symposium on April 10, 2024. Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lubar Hall, this event seeks to explore various challenges and opportunities related to community empowerment and justice.
The symposium aims to foster discussions on how these themes intersect with different power dynamics and social inequalities. Participants are encouraged to submit proposals that reflect a broad spectrum of perspectives. These can range from academic analyses to creative expressions, such as personal narratives, performance pieces, and mixed media presentations.
Submissions are welcome in multiple formats, including but not limited to short academic papers, poster presentations, poetry, storytelling, and short films. This diversity of formats is intended to engage a wide audience and stimulate dialogue on critical issues affecting communities.
The deadline for proposal submissions is January 7, 2024. Selected participants will have the chance to receive prizes ranging from $150 to $300 for outstanding presentations, encouraging both undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their work.
The symposium is organized by the Honors College, the Division of Community Empowerment & Institutional Inclusivity, and Student Involvement, highlighting UWM’s commitment to community engagement and social justice. Interested individuals can submit their proposals online through the university’s designated platform.
This event presents a valuable opportunity for participants to contribute to meaningful conversations and to explore how they can play a role in promoting justice and equity within their communities.
