Glenn R. Miller, a former minor league baseball player and long-time resident of The Highlands in Wyomissing, passed away on January 15, 2026, at the age of 81. He was surrounded by family and friends, leaving behind a legacy marked by his dedication to family, community service, and a love for sports.
Born in Leesport, Pennsylvania, Miller was the son of the late Kenneth G. Miller and Beulah A. (Wentzel) Miller. He graduated from Ontelaunee High School in 1962 and went on to serve in the US Army. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a representative for Lutheran Brotherhood, now known as Thrivent, where he worked for 37 years before retiring in 1999.
Miller’s passion for baseball was evident throughout his life. He played in the minor league system for the Pittsburgh Pirates and achieved the impressive feat of recording two holes-in-one during his golfing career. His enthusiasm for sports extended beyond personal achievements; he was a dedicated supporter of local athletics and a life member of both the Basketball Old Timers and the Reading Hot Stovers.
In addition to his passion for sports, Miller was actively involved in his community. He served on the church council for the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Leesport and acted as the East Berks Mission Lay President for six years. His commitment to service also included roles on the Board of Family Life at Topton Home for five years, the Berks County Prison Society Board, and the Prospectus/Berco Board.
Miller is survived by his wife, Sally A. (Hunt) Miller, whom he married on May 8, 1965. They celebrated 60 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring partnership. He is also survived by two sons, Kerry G. Miller and Brian K. Miller, as well as three grandchildren: Peter, Gabriella, and Giuliana. His siblings, including Larry D. Miller, Deanna F. (Miller) Barbis, Lynn K. Miller, and Steven K. Miller, also mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his daughter, Deanna S. Miller, who passed away on November 17, 2017.
A memorial service will be held on January 24, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, located at 102 Apple Street, Leesport, PA 19533. A visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church, and burial will be private at Laureldale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity at the aforementioned address.
