James V. “Jim” Gearhart, a cherished member of the Fellowship Community in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 80. His life was celebrated for its rich contributions to family, education, and the community. Gearhart was married to his beloved wife, Carol Gearhart, for 48 years, building a legacy of love and support.
Born on May 15, 1945, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of the late Vernon and Elinor Gearhart. He distinguished himself early on as the Valedictorian of his class at John Harris High School in Harrisburg. Following his graduation, he pursued higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Haverford College.
After his studies, Gearhart dedicated over three decades to Kutztown University, where he served as the Chief Budget Officer. His career was marked by a commitment to financial stewardship in higher education, positively impacting many students and faculty members during his tenure.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was known for his diverse interests. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and vacationing at Stone Harbor, New Jersey. An avid sports fan and photography enthusiast, he embraced life’s moments with passion and joy. Jim was an active member of the CedarCrest Bible Fellowship Church in Allentown, where he connected with others through shared faith and community service.
Jim leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Diana J. Blackford and her husband, Ty, of Sidney, Ohio, and Amy E. Wesner and her husband, Eric, of Bethel. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Simon, Anderson, and Eva Blackford, along with Jamie and Paul Wesner. He was predeceased by his brother, John Gearhart.
A service to honor Jim’s life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on January 3, 2026, at the Zentz Community Center, located at 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall, within the Fellowship Community Campus. The service will be officiated by Rev. Carl Fischer, Jr. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service for a time of remembrance and connection. Following the service, a private interment will take place at Laureldale Cemetery in Reading.
