Veterans from the Vietnam War era are invited to a special ceremony on Veterans Day, where they will receive commemorative lapel pins recognizing their service. This event will take place at American Legion Post 32 in Longmont on November 11, 2023, at 2 p.m. It marks the final official pinning ceremony for veterans who served between 1955 and 1975, regardless of their deployment location.
In addition to honoring veterans, the ceremony will also present commemorative pins to the surviving spouses of those who served during the Vietnam War. Notably, veterans and their spouses do not need to be members of Post 32 to receive the pins, nor is proof of service required.
Details of the Ceremony and Parade
The pinning ceremony follows the Longmont Veterans Day Parade, which begins at 11:11 a.m. on Main Street. Veterans of any era are welcome to participate, either by marching or riding in the parade. Participants are encouraged to gather at Roosevelt Park, located at 700 Longs Peak Ave., at 10 a.m. to prepare for the procession.
American Legion Post 32 is situated at 315 S. Bowen St.. For further information about the ceremony, attendees can contact the post at 303-776-2034 and leave a message for Gene Schiferl, the coordinator for the commemoration.
This ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Vietnam War veterans and their families, providing an opportunity for recognition and reflection on their contributions to the nation. As the final pinning ceremony of its kind, it is expected to draw a significant turnout, celebrating the enduring legacy of those who served during this critical period in history.
