A mother from Victorville, California, has turned her traumatic past into a thriving business, launching a Black-owned skincare brand that emphasizes healing and resilience. Alyssiah Robinson, the founder and CEO of Purfect Skyn, started her journey from difficult beginnings, including an abusive childhood and homelessness, to create products that cater to her family’s needs.
Robinson’s life took a significant turn when her young son developed severe eczema. Concerned about the harshness of conventional treatments, she sought a natural solution. “The focus was really my baby at the time,” Robinson explained. “He was having a lot of cracking, bleeding and eczema, so I wanted to figure out a natural solution.”
From Adversity to Entrepreneurship
Before establishing her skincare line, Robinson faced numerous challenges that shaped her character and determination. Growing up in the foster care system, she experienced instability and abuse, which fueled her ambition to pursue education and build a better life for her family.
Once her son’s condition worsened, Robinson dedicated herself to researching natural ingredients. Over four years, she experimented with various blends, aiming to create products that would not only soothe her son’s skin but also nourish it. The result was Purfect Skyn, a line of skincare products that focuses on being gentle and effective.
“It was incredible just to see how fast it worked,” Robinson recalled of her product development journey. “To see that and think, ‘I figured it out.'”

What began as a personal mission has evolved into a successful business, allowing Robinson to share her story and inspire others. For her, building Purfect Skyn transcends entrepreneurship; it symbolizes a commitment to breaking cycles of trauma and crafting a brighter future for her children.
“Really, the greatest gift to me as a mother now is that none of my kids had to go through what I went through. That’s when I know I did it right,” Robinson said. Each order she ships represents more than just skincare products; it embodies a narrative of resilience and hope.
As Robinson continues to expand her brand, she remains dedicated to helping others who face similar struggles. Her journey is a testament to the power of determination and the ability to transform one’s life through hard work and commitment to healing.
