Louis R. “Lou” DiCerbo, a beloved member of the Schenectady community, passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 95 at Ellis Hospital. Known for his dedication to both his profession and community service, DiCerbo leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Born in Schenectady to the late Pasquale and Elvira Riccio DiCerbo, Lou had a distinguished career as a photographer for the General Electric Company. He later retired from the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where his work was highly regarded. Beyond his professional achievements, he was deeply committed to volunteerism, making significant contributions to local organizations.
Community Contributions and Legacy
DiCerbo was actively involved with the Schenectady City Mission, where he volunteered his time to support those in need. He frequently delivered bread from local businesses, including Perreca’s and Panera Bread, to various local institutions such as the former Carmelite Monastery, Ellis Hospital Emergency Room, and battered women’s shelters. His efforts not only provided sustenance but also highlighted his commitment to uplifting the community.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rose DiCerbo, and their three children: Louis DiCerbo, a dentist from Western Springs, IL, Margaret Golden of Niskayuna, and Marina DiCerbo from San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Esther Graham, and three grandchildren: Andrew, Olivia, and Dan. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Gray.
Final Arrangements and Memorial Contributions
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the calling hours on January 12, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day, January 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, followed by burial at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville.
