Priscilla Salisbury, a prominent opera singer and vocal studies professor at Lone Star College in Houston, has received nominations for two prestigious Catholic Music Awards. The ceremony will take place on July 27, 2023, at the Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome, Italy. This recognition highlights her contributions to music, both in English and Spanish categories.
Salisbury’s journey in music began early, nurtured by her parents, David and Alicia Salisbury, who recognized her talent from a young age. “She was always singing at church and school… she is very happy when she’s performing,” said Alicia, expressing her excitement about traveling to Rome to support her daughter. The family moved to Houston from Mexico when Priscilla was in fifth grade, and music quickly became her refuge.
“Going into middle school, I didn’t speak the language, didn’t know the cultures. I did well in music. It was home,” Priscilla reflected on her early experiences. Over the years, she has built an impressive career, performing with the Houston Grand Opera and various other opera companies across the United States.
Priscilla holds a degree in opera from the University of Texas and a Master of Sacred Music from the University of St. Thomas. Her nominations for the Catholic Music Awards include Best Female Singer and Best New Artist. “The Catholic Music Awards are in their first year,” she noted, sharing that she submitted recordings in both the English and Spanish categories.
The recognition at the Catholic Music Awards signifies not only Priscilla’s talent but also her ability to bridge cultural gaps through her music. With her parents’ unwavering support and her own dedication, she has transformed her initial passion into a flourishing career, inspiring many along the way. As the award ceremony approaches, the anticipation builds, not just for the nominations but for the celebration of her artistic journey.
With her voice resonating across genres and languages, Priscilla Salisbury stands as a remarkable example of talent and perseverance, poised to make her mark on a global stage.
