Ross R. Thompson, aged 63, passed away on August 9, 2025, at his home in Garrison, Minnesota. Known for his adventurous spirit and community involvement, Thompson left a lasting impact on those around him.
Born on August 2, 1962, in Crosby, Minnesota, Ross was the youngest of three siblings in the Thompson family. As a child, he was known for his mischievous nature. Summers were filled with activities at his parents’ resort, Bob’s Trailer Park, where he operated the launch. During the winter months, he dedicated his time to ice fishing on Lake Mille Lacs, a passion that included towing ice houses and finding the best fishing spots.
After graduating from Brainerd Senior High School, Ross pursued a career in electrical construction at Anoka Technical Institute. He became a licensed Journeyman Electrician, enjoying a successful career that spanned 38 years before his early retirement in 2019.
Throughout his life, Ross actively contributed to his community as a volunteer first responder with the Garrison Fire Department. His love for the outdoors was evident in his hobbies, which included fishing, hunting, and taking long rides on his four-wheeler. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and sharing stories, often with a humorous twist.
Ross is survived by his daughters, Holly Thompson of Minneapolis and Kelsey Thompson of Fairbanks, Alaska. He is also remembered by his former spouse, Lisa Lauer (Svoboda), of Blaine, along with his sisters, Catherine ‘Cathy’ Thompson (Larry Hovgaard) of Garrison and Lorri Svoboda of Brainerd. Numerous nieces and nephews also cherish his memory.
Preceding Ross in death were his parents, Muriel and Robert ‘Bob’ Thompson, as well as his brother-in-law, Dennis Svoboda.
A memorial service in his honor is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Garrison Fire Relief Association or that trees be planted in his memory. Arrangements are being handled by Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
Ross R. Thompson will be remembered for his vibrant personality, love for nature, and dedication to his family and community. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched.
