Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by loved ones, Kovacs left a legacy marked by his passion for music, teaching, and a deep connection to family.
Kovacs enjoyed a successful career in sales and education, having made significant contributions during his time at Dakota Tech. His love for music blossomed in his early years and continued to flourish throughout his life. He was actively involved in the White Bear Lake High School choir and liturgical music, eventually forming several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and JS Trio. His musical journey was a source of joy and inspiration for many.
In addition to music, Kovacs had a passion for woodworking and sports, particularly golf. He cherished moments spent with his wife, Deb, at their lakeside home, where they created lasting memories together.
Kovacs was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs. He is survived by his wife, Deb; sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan); grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; sisters, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, and Jody Jarvis; as well as his brother, John Kovacs. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Jody Jarvis for her compassionate support in assisting Deb with home hospice care during Steve’s final days.
A Celebration of Life Planned
A celebration of Steven Kovacs’ life is scheduled for January 6, 2026, at 14:00, with visitation beginning one hour prior at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, MN 55124. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family and friends to honor his memory and reflect on the impact he had on their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the St. Scholastica Convent, which can be found online at www.sbm.osb.org.
Kovacs’ life was a testament to the power of love, music, and connection, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
