Remembering Linda Gudmundson Leete: A Life of Love and Service

Linda Gudmundson Leete passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 75 years old. Born on April 29, 1950, in Merced, California, Linda was the second of four children in the Gudmundson family. Her early years were spent in San Rafael, where she attended high school and formed a lifelong bond with her future husband, Paul Leete.

Following high school, Linda pursued her education at the University of California, Berkeley. Paul was drafted into the US Navy during this time, but upon his return, the couple moved to Chico, California. Linda completed her studies at California State University, Chico, where she earned a bachelor’s degree, a teaching credential, and a master’s degree in English.

Throughout her extensive teaching career, Linda made a significant impact on her students. She began at Chico Junior High School, where she taught English and led the drama department. Her passion for theatre resulted in numerous productions that brought joy to both her and her students. Linda later taught at Butte Community College, Chapman Elementary School, and Blue Oak Charter School, demonstrating her commitment to education at all levels.

In addition to her teaching, Linda and Paul embarked on a successful career in home design and development. They purchased and remodeled homes in their early years together, which laid the foundation for a long-lasting passion for real estate. Linda’s keen eye for design contributed greatly to many residential subdivisions and commercial complexes developed in the Chico area.

Linda’s love for travel and literature complemented her deep appreciation for education. She was also deeply interested in politics and current events, often engaging in lively discussions on various topics. Yet, her greatest joy came from her family. She cherished her two children, Christine Kermen and Tim Leete, and took immense pride in her grandchildren, whom she supported at every activity and sporting event.

After the passing of her husband in 2021, Linda grew closer to her sister-in-law, Pam Young. Together, they shared enriching experiences, taking classes and attending fitness sessions, reinforcing the importance of family and friendship. In her final months, Linda was lovingly cared for by her daughter and sister-in-law, showcasing the strength of their bond and the profound impact of familial love.

Linda is survived by her children, Christine (Nick) and Tim (Sara), along with her grandchildren, Anthony Kermen, Courtney Ortega (Luis), and Kylee, Kaitlin, and Tyler Leete. She is also survived by her sister, Reta Gudmundson (Gary Spitzack), brother, John Gudmundson (Hye), and many nieces and nephews.

Linda’s legacy is one of generosity, unwavering commitment to family, and a willingness to help those in need. She will be remembered for the grace and dignity with which she navigated her life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
