Katherine Short, Daughter of Martin Short, Passes Away at 42

Katherine Short, the daughter of renowned comedian Martin Short, has tragically passed away at the age of 42. Law enforcement sources confirmed that she was found deceased at her home in Hollywood Hills on July 17, 2023, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Katherine, who had previously documented her struggles with mental health, mentioned having a service dog named Joni, named after singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. According to her now-deleted professional website, Katherine referred to Joni as her “incredible service dog,” stating that she had been a source of support for the past five years. The biography section highlighted Joni’s affectionate nature, assuring clients that they would be greeted by a friendly dog during visits to her office.

The Short family expressed their deep sorrow through a representative, stating, “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

Katherine was the eldest child of Martin Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman. She worked as a social worker in Los Angeles, dedicating her life to helping others. In light of her passing, scheduled comedy shows featuring her father with Steve Martin in the Midwest have been postponed.

This news has touched many, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness. For those in crisis or struggling, help is available through resources like the 988 Lifeline, which offers support via call or text.
