Turkey Time: The 12 Most Disappointing Films of 2025

The film industry is gearing up for the end of 2025, and critics have begun to highlight the year’s most disappointing cinematic releases. With a mix of high-profile actors and ambitious themes, these films have failed to resonate with audiences and critics alike. Here, we explore the twelve movies that have garnered the most negative reviews this year.

Disappointing Releases from the Year

One of the notable failures is Saturday Night, directed by Jason Reitman. Critics have described it as “exhausting,” pointing to its excessive self-indulgence. According to Peter Bradshaw, the film will likely challenge even the most devoted fans of the iconic US comedy show, making it a struggle to enjoy.

Another film that has drawn criticism is Snow White, a live-action musical interpretation of the classic tale. Bradshaw noted that the film attempts to provide a revised take on the beloved story but ultimately feels like a “merch-enabling money machine.” Unlike others that have playfully reimagined familiar narratives, this version is criticized for its lack of creativity and authenticity.

The Cannes Film Festival opened with the musical Partir un Jour, which has also faced harsh critiques. Reviewers found it to be listless and self-important, with a lack of engaging storytelling. Its opening gala slot is considered a risky gamble, and this film did not pay off, according to Bradshaw.

Meanwhile, Alpha has been described as overly dramatic and tedious, with every line feeling redundant. The film’s attempts to evoke strong emotions have been met with skepticism, leading to a perception of unpersuasiveness.

Critic Leslie Felperin highlighted High Rollers, a film featuring John Travolta. This film has been dismissed as a poor imitation of the classic Ocean’s Eleven, with its lack of charm and coherence leading to moments of unintentional humor.

A Look at Other Noteworthy Failures

The animated feature Jungle Trouble has also disappointed audiences. It features a lead character named Mohsen, whose annoying traits overshadow the film’s narrative. Critics likened this production to a poorly stitched-together version of better films.

In the realm of sentimentality, Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney, failed to impress. Reviewers noted that Clooney appeared disenchanted, likening his performance to a man facing a dire situation. The film’s self-indulgent tone has not won any favors with critics.

Another film, The Boatyard, faced severe backlash for its lack of basic filmmaking skills, with acting described as intolerably bad. Felperin remarked on the film’s overall pointlessness, suggesting that it lacked any semblance of wit or empathy.

The action film Mission Alarum, featuring Sylvester Stallone, has drawn scrutiny for its unclear messaging and lack of engaging content. Critics have questioned the performances of Stallone alongside his co-stars, expressing that the film shames American cinema.

Lastly, Mr Blake at Your Service! has been criticized for its painful viewing experience, particularly due to John Malkovich‘s unusual line readings. His portrayal in a French accent is described as distracting and unconvincing.

The dismal reception of these films serves as a reminder that even star power and familiar tales do not guarantee success. As audiences approach the holiday season, the cinematic landscape of 2025 will be remembered for these critical misfires.
