A Milestone Year for Carpenter
The year has been significant for Carpenter, highlighted by her achievement of a Number One debut on the Billboard chart with her song “Manchild.” Released on August 29, 2023, her sophomore album, Man’s Best Friend, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and achieved platinum status just three months post-release.
In addition to her musical success, Carpenter’s promotional efforts included an eye-catching music video for the album’s second track, “Tears.” The video features the Grammy Award-winning artist dancing with actor Colman Domingo in drag, showcasing her artistic versatility and commitment to bold visuals.
Carpenter’s breakthrough year has not gone unnoticed, with Rolling Stone dubbing it the “Summer of Sabrina” in their summer double issue. In the feature, she candidly discussed the pressures associated with newfound fame in the music industry. She remarked, “What people probably don’t realize is the more eyes you have on you, the harder it is to love what you’re doing, and you have to keep fighting to still love making things and to still love performing.”
She elaborated on the challenges of maintaining joy in her work amidst scrutiny, stating, “Because the critical sides start to taint it, and they start to make things less fun.”
Despite these challenges, Carpenter remains hopeful and dedicated to her craft, emphasizing the importance of creating for the love of the art itself. As she continues to engage her audience, fans can anticipate more from this rising star in the coming year.
