Molly Qerim Departs ESPN’s First Take After Celebrated Tenure

Molly Qerim has officially announced her departure from ESPN’s acclaimed sports debate show, First Take. After nearly a decade of co-hosting, Qerim shared her decision through an Instagram story, confirming that she will be stepping away from the program for good. Speculation about her exit had begun when Evan Cohen briefly filled in for her during her summer break in July 2025.

Qerim joined ESPN in 2006, initially working on digital media content and conducting interviews with notable athletes and celebrities. She has covered high-profile events, including the Super Bowl and the NBA All-Star Game. Her journey on First Take began when she took on the role of interim host in July 2015, later being named permanent co-host in September of the same year.

In her Instagram statement, Qerim addressed the rumors surrounding her exit, saying, “Now that the news came out earlier than I intended, and not in the way I hoped…” She expressed her gratitude for the opportunities and experiences that came with hosting the show, stating, “After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from First Take. Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career.”

Qerim highlighted the memorable moments spent with her colleagues and the show’s dedicated fanbase, remarking, “Every morning, I had the privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate, and entertaining voices in sports—and with all of you, the best fans in the world.”

The former host also emphasized her appreciation for the journey, noting, “I’m so grateful for what this journey has given me: lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the chance to be part of something truly special.” She concluded her message with heartfelt thanks, stating, “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for welcoming me into your homes.”

According to the New York Post, ESPN had offered Qerim a contract renewal, but the 41-year-old opted not to accept the offer. As of now, Qerim has not publicly disclosed her future career plans, leaving fans and colleagues alike eager to see what lies ahead.

Her departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both Qerim and First Take, a show that has become a staple in sports broadcasting. The impact of her tenure is sure to resonate with audiences as she moves forward in her career.
