Actor Chris Noth has responded to the backlash surrounding his comments about his former “Sex and the City” co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker. In a recent Instagram post, Noth described his remark as “slightly sarcastic” and dismissed the ensuing drama as “not worth all this discussion.”
On March 15, 2024, Noth took to Instagram to clarify that his comment was a lighthearted response to an internet exchange. He stated, “My off-the-cuff, slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot. It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion. It is a waste of time in a world where there are more important things to worry about.”
The controversy began on March 11, 2024, when Noth shared a photo of himself working out at the gym, captioning it with an expletive-laden phrase celebrating the new year. In the comments, a fan jokingly referenced Parker’s recent achievement in winning the prestigious Carol Burnett Award from the Golden Globes, asking, “You mean (expletive) sjp & her award right? Lol.” Noth’s response, “Right,” ignited discussions about the state of his relationship with Parker.
Questions about their friendship have persisted since the duo collaborated on the acclaimed HBO series, “Sex and the City,” which aired for six seasons. Noth portrayed “Mr. Big,” the on-again-off-again partner of Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw. They later reunited for two film sequels and the reboot series, “And Just Like That,” which premiered in 2021. However, Noth’s character was killed off in the first episode following allegations of sexual misconduct against him, which surfaced in December 2021.
Following the allegations, Parker and her co-stars, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, issued a joint statement expressing their support for the women who came forward. “We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences,” they stated.
Noth has consistently denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false.” In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he claimed that the accusations stemmed from “individuals I met years, even decades, ago.” He maintained that all encounters with his accusers were consensual, stating, “I did not assault these women.”
In May 2022, Parker confirmed that she had not spoken to Noth since her public statement regarding the allegations. Her silence on the matter further fueled speculation about their friendship.
As the conversation surrounding Noth and Parker continues, it highlights the complexities of relationships within the entertainment industry, particularly in the wake of serious allegations. While Noth attempts to downplay the situation, the impact of his comments and the surrounding controversy remains a topic of discussion among fans and media alike.
