Community Mourns the Loss of Thomas E. Casey, Sr.

Thomas E. Casey, Sr., a beloved community member and U.S. Navy veteran, passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 78. Known for his local business, Shorty’s Bait and Tackle, in Chesapeake, Virginia, Casey left a lasting impact on both his family and the community he served.

Born on April 4, 1947, Casey was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his brother Jeffrey, and four sons: Thomas Jr., Michael, Chris, and Marc. Also cherishing his memory are two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members and friends.

Casey’s business, Shorty’s Bait and Tackle, became a cornerstone for fishing enthusiasts in the area. His commitment to providing quality service and local knowledge made him a respected figure among customers and peers alike. Beyond his entrepreneurial spirit, Casey was a man of faith, previously affiliated with Woodland Heights Baptist Church and most recently with Great Fork Baptist Church in Suffolk, Virginia.

He is remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his warm personality and willingness to help others. His contributions to the community extended beyond his business, as he was known for engaging with local events and supporting various causes.

Final Wishes and Remembrance

Casey was predeceased by his parents, Thomas V. and Valena E. Casey, along with his sisters Barbara Susan and Cathy, and his brother Daniel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Great Fork Baptist Church, allowing his legacy of faith and community service to continue.
