mgk Delivers Intimate Hourlong Show for 250 Fans in Minneapolis

Machine Gun Kelly, now known as mgk, captivated an audience of 250 fans with a surprise performance on March 15, 2024, at the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis. The event was part of his unique approach to touring, opting for intimate pop-up concerts rather than his usual large arena shows. While another 200 fans braved the rain outside, mgk delivered an electrifying hourlong set, featuring 13 songs, including the lively track “Miss Sunshine.”

Standing on a wooden stool and accompanied by his five-man band, mgk engaged the crowd, encouraging them to sing along. Fans sporting memorabilia from Guns N’ Roses and Linkin Park responded enthusiastically, creating a vibrant atmosphere. “That’s a 10 outta 10, my new friends,” he exclaimed, clearly enjoying the connection with his audience.

This performance marked the final stop in mgk’s Lost XX Road Trip Tour, following three previous Midwestern shows. Announced just a week prior, details about the time and location were shared via email only hours before the event.

Before taking the stage, mgk signed 300 copies of his latest album, “Lost Americana,” for sale at the venue. Following his performance, he surprised fans by stepping outside to film a social media video atop his merchandise truck, eliciting cheers from those who had gathered to watch through the store’s windows.

The Electric Fetus, a renowned record store with a rich history of hosting mini-concerts, had planned this event for approximately a month. It turned out to be the shop’s most significant in-store performance to date, as mgk brought his own security, management teams, and sound equipment.

After the show, eager fans lined up to purchase the signed LPs, priced at $37.99. “I’ve been a fan since 2012 and he never ceases to amaze me,” said Nicole Freedman, a fan from Bloomington wearing a Billie Eilish T-shirt. Another fan, Lori Lobdell, expressed her excitement, stating, “It was intimate, personal.”

The experience resonated deeply with attendees. Garett Greeman from Chaska described it as “awesome,” adding that it exceeded his expectations due to the close proximity to the performance. Brianna Gibson, who found herself front and center during the show, called the event “epic,” saying, “You feel it in your soul. You couldn’t have a better experience.”

After mgk’s departure, Electric Fetus staff remained for nearly 90 minutes, continuing to sell the signed albums. “We expect the unexpected, and he delivered,” said Dawn Novak, the marketing manager at the Electric Fetus. She highlighted the joy of witnessing artists connect with their fans, noting that there was no shortage of that connection during mgk’s performance.
