All Mobile Video Upgrades Production Truck with FOR-A Processors

All Mobile Video (AMV) has enhanced its NYLA production truck with the selection of two FOR-A FA-1616 multi-channel processors. This decision comes as part of a significant upgrade to the 51-foot mobile unit, which will support various live event productions, including high-profile music performances and award ceremonies.

The FA-1616, measuring just 1RU, offers impressive performance capabilities. It provides 32 inputs and outputs, high-end color correction, and supports up, down, and cross conversion, along with frame synchronization. Additionally, it interfaces with both Dante and MADI audio protocols. Paul Butkiewicz, Director of Engineering at AMV, expressed enthusiasm about the processor’s capabilities, stating, “The FA-1616 checked every box and then some. We’re thrilled with the flexibility and firepower this brings to NYLA.”

Meeting Diverse Production Demands

The upgraded truck is designed to accommodate the diverse audio and video formats required for various live shows. Butkiewicz highlighted the necessity of supporting multiple formats and frame rates, saying, “We need to be able to support any format or frame rate our clients are working with, which for just one show can include several.” The FA-1616 is expected to simplify the production of live events that demand multi-platform delivery and live switching.

NYLA operates on the UHD/3G/HD transmission standard, making it essential for the truck to have robust technical capabilities. The ease of use of the FA-1616’s graphical user interface was a significant factor in AMV’s decision. Butkiewicz remarked, “We were all amazed by its ease of use. With all the unit’s features, we couldn’t believe how easy it is to operate.”

Future-Ready Technology

In addition to supporting current technologies, the FA-1616 meets future needs with its SMPTE ST-2110 support for IP network infrastructures. Butkiewicz emphasized AMV’s confidence in offering clients the ability to work with any IP-based technologies. “We evaluated several competitive multi-channel signal processors, and none had the combination of ease of use, power, and future readiness as the FA-1616,” he stated.

The introduction of the FA-1616 to AMV came through a demonstration at the NAB convention by FOR-A Americas’ Director of Sales, Northeast, Gerry Nazimek. Following a successful trial period, AMV decided on the FA-1616, with Butkiewicz noting, “We loved everything it could do, again in such a small package. I knew this would be the perfect fit for our NYLA truck.”

NYLA’s media network has also been upgraded to a 10-gigabit per second (10 Gbps) infrastructure, enhancing its data handling and transmission capabilities. Satoshi Kanemura, President of FOR-A Corporation of America, remarked on the partnership, saying, “All Mobile Video has been a premier provider of mobile production for decades now. We couldn’t be happier with their selection of FOR-A’s FA-1616 signal processor as a key part of this important upgrade.”

The FA-1616 processors can be monitored and controlled via a web browser or Ember+, and they support SNMP networking protocol. A redundant power supply is standard for all models, ensuring reliability. With compatibility for SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2022 interfaces, the FA-1616 serves as an ideal gateway between SDI and IP, as well as IP to IP and SDI to SDI, making it a versatile choice for modern production needs. The frame synchronizer also supports 4K/12G-SDI and simultaneous processing of 4K UHD and HD video, enabling seamless integration of high-quality content.
