Ten Surgical Technology Graduates Honored at SRTC Pinning Ceremony

UPDATE: On July 24, 2025, ten aspiring Surgical Technologists were honored at the Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) pinning ceremony in Tifton, Georgia. This momentous event celebrated the graduates’ hard work and commitment, marking a significant milestone in their healthcare careers.

The graduates, including Kaitlyn Classon from Meigs, Jacara Hayes, Ashlyn Lundy, Shamiere McIntyre, and Hope Russell from nearby communities, completed an intensive curriculum comprising both prerequisite and specialized surgical technology coursework. Their training included hands-on clinical rotations at local medical facilities, equipping them with essential skills needed in operating rooms.

Graduates of the SRTC Surgical Technology program earn an associate of applied science degree and are now eligible to take the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). This certification is a crucial step for these students as they prepare to enter a vital and growing field in healthcare.

The Surgical Technology program at SRTC provides students with comprehensive training in areas such as aseptic techniques, medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and the interpersonal skills necessary for success. As healthcare demands rise, the expertise of surgical technologists plays a pivotal role in ensuring safe and efficient surgical procedures.

“We are incredibly proud of these graduates and their commitment to excellence throughout the program,” said Gina Chambers, Surgical Technology Program Chair. “They have demonstrated dedication and professionalism that will serve them well in their healthcare careers. It’s rewarding to see them ready to make a positive impact in operating rooms across our region.”

The SRTC offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs, designed to swiftly prepare students for their desired careers. With instructional sites located in eleven counties across Southwest Georgia, SRTC continues to serve students effectively. The fall semester begins on August 19, and interested individuals are encouraged to enroll promptly.
