URGENT UPDATE: The Uniontown community is mourning the loss of esteemed educator Roy P. Fischer, 79, who passed away on July 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. Fischer, a dedicated teacher and church leader, leaves behind a profound legacy that touched countless lives.
Fischer was born on July 4, 1946, in Uniontown, PA, to the late Roy O. Fischer and Virginia Friend Fischer. He was a proud graduate of South Union High School, class of 1964, and furthered his education by earning a teaching degree from California University, along with postgraduate studies at Penn State University and West Virginia University.
His commitment to education was evident during his tenure at the Laurel Highlands School District, where he taught Science and Social Studies. Fischer was also recognized for his role as Treasurer for the Fayette School Employees Credit Union, highlighting his dedication to the local educational community.
Beyond the classroom, Fischer was a beloved member of the Third Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and was actively involved as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 608. He notably founded the Laurel Highlands Jumonville Outdoor School, creating opportunities for youth to engage with nature and learning.
Fischer is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Reitz Fischer, and their five children: David, Donald, and Matthew Fischer, along with daughters Laura Cooper and Holly Stewart. He also leaves behind a close-knit family including his brother and sister, Robert and Joyce, and ten cherished grandchildren, who will forever remember his warmth and guidance.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home & Crematories, Inc. located at 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA, on Sunday, July 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The visitation will continue at Abundant Life Church on July 28, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a service officiated by Pastor Garrett Howard and Pastor Mac Reed.
Interment will take place at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, providing a final resting place for a man dedicated to his faith and community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy’s memory to the Laurel Highlands Academic Foundation for the Jumonville Outdoor School, addressed to Joanne Phillian at 70 Wiggins Lane, Uniontown PA 15401.
