URGENT UPDATE: The FBI has just released new details in the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie, increasing the reward for information to $100,000. Investigators are now actively pursuing a suspect described as a man between 5’9” and 5’10” tall, with an average build, last seen wearing a distinct black, 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack.
This new information follows a forensic analysis of doorbell camera footage by the FBI’s Operational Technology Division. Authorities urge the public to closely examine the updated description to aid in generating credible tips. Since the onset of this investigation on February 1, 2026, the FBI has received over 13,000 tips, all of which are being meticulously reviewed.
Earlier this week, the FBI also released surveillance images and videos of a potential suspect. In the footage, a figure can be seen wearing a jacket, ski mask, and gloves, carrying a backpack, and appearing to have a firearm at their waist. Nancy was last seen on January 31, 2026, when her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, dropped her off at her home in Tucson. She was reported missing the following day.
The investigation has been marked by uncertainty, with Sheriff Chris Nanos clarifying that Cioni is not a suspect in the case. He emphasized that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department is treating the disappearance as a “possible kidnapping or abduction.”
While initial reports indicated a ransom letter had been sent to multiple media outlets, authorities have not confirmed its authenticity. In a heartfelt plea, Savannah Guthrie, alongside her siblings, has addressed the suspected kidnappers directly, expressing their anguish and urgency to have their mother returned safely. “We received your message, and we understand,” Savannah stated in one emotional video. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.”
Sheriff Nanos remains hopeful about Nancy’s safe return, stating, “We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here. She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”
As this situation develops, the FBI is calling on anyone with information to come forward. The urgency of this case is palpable, and the community’s involvement could be pivotal in bringing Nancy Guthrie home.
