Broomfield Girls Swim Team Aims for State Championship Glory

The state championships for high school girls swimming are set to take place at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in March 2024, with teams from across Colorado competing for top honors. Among the frontrunners, the Broomfield High School girls swim team stands out, boasting a strong chance of securing the Class 4A state title.

The competition kicks off on March 7 and 8 for Class 4A, followed by Class 3A on March 8 and 9, and concluding with Class 5A on March 12 and 13. Broomfield enters the state meet as the top-ranked team in Class 4A, according to PrepSwimCo, with an impressive total of 30 entries. This number significantly surpasses second-ranked Golden, which has only 16 entries.

Broomfield’s Dominance in Class 4A

Broomfield’s diverse roster positions them as a formidable contender. Their relay teams are particularly noteworthy, with the 200 medley relay team comprising Karlie Chandra, Kamryn Wimmer, Ridley Hagerman, and Avery Weihing ranked third with a time of 1 minute, 51.48 seconds. The squad also leads in the 200 free relay, clocking in at 1:39.08, and holds the top spot in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:32.11.

Individually, Ridley Hagerman has set herself apart, ranking first in the 200 free (1:50.06), the 100 free (51.63), and the 500 free (4:55.14). Her times demonstrate a notable lead, particularly in the 500 free, where she is ahead by an impressive 11 seconds. Myra Wherry also shines, ranking fifth in the 200 free (1:54.64) and second in the 100 butterfly (58.08). Additionally, Ellie Foulke is a top contender in multiple events, ranking second in the 200 individual medley (2:05.95) and the 500 free (5:06.22), while she leads in the 100 backstroke (57.30).

Other noteworthy competitors in Class 4A include Centaurus, with strong placements in various events, and Aliana Thomas, the top diver from the region, who ranks seventh with a high score of 157.80.

Highlighting Talent in Class 3A and Class 5A

In Class 3A, Holy Family High School is the sole representative from the local area, and they are led by standout swimmer Lorelai Frauenfelder. Frauenfelder has consistently performed at a high level, ranking first in the 200 free (1:50.33) and the 50 free (24.16). She is also positioned well in the 100 free (51.52) and 100 back (57.06). After winning the school’s first girls state swimming titles in the 50 free and 100 free last year, she aims to repeat her success.

Class 5A features talent from Boulder High School, where Hazel Huilman is poised to make an impact. Huilman ranks third in the 200 individual medley (2:03.90) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (55.99). Her previous state titles in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke highlight her competitive edge.

Fairview High School also contributes notable athletes, with Lexi Byrn ranking third in the 100 butterfly (54.79) and Marin DeNeen holding the second-best time in the 100 back (56.76).

As the championships approach, the excitement builds for the athletes, coaches, and fans who have eagerly awaited this culmination of hard work and dedication throughout the season. The upcoming meets promise thrilling races and the potential for new records as these talented young swimmers and divers take to the pool.
